Materials & Jewelry Care
Every piece of Millions of Mirrors jewelry is made with care from Recycled Sterling Silver, 18k Gold Vermeil and 18k Gold-Filled.
What is Sterling Silver?
Sterling Silver is a metal that is created by combining 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% of other metals, usually copper. Fine silver, on the other hand, is 99.9% pure silver but because it is relatively soft and challenging to work with in jewelry making, it is usually mixed with other metals to increase its durabilty.
All of our Sterling silver pieces are plated in Rhodium which is a very rare, strong, corrosion resistant metal. This makes the jewelry more durable, resistant to tarnishing and creates a more reflective appearance.
What is Gold Vermeil?
Gold Vermeil (pronounced vehr-may) is composed of a thick layer of solid gold (at least 2.5 microns) over high quality sterling silver, which means it is made from precious metals only. It is the longest lasting option aside from solid gold and gold filled jewelry.
What is Gold-Filled?
Gold Filled jewelry is composed of a layer of solid gold heat and pressure bonded to a base metal such as brass. This is a permanent bonding method and because of pressure and extremely hot temperature, Gold Filled is far more valuable and durable than gold plated jewelry. It is a great alternative to solid gold and with proper care, your gold-filled jewelry can last you years to come!
Can you wear your jewelry in water?
- Both our Gold-Filled and Gold Vermeil jewelry can handle some water exposure, but it's best to avoid prolonged contact with water and harsh chemicals to maintain their appearance and longevity.
Is your jewelry hypoallergenic?
Hypoallergenic jewelry is made of metals less likely to cause an allergic reaction. Most allergic reactions are caused by nickel. Jewelry is usually considered hypoallergenic if it contains no nickel or a very small trace not enough to cause allergy.
Our Gold Filled jewelry does not contain nickel and because it has a thick layer of gold, your skin will not be easily exposed to the base metal.
Our Rhodium plated Sterling Silver and Gold Vermeil jewelry is lead and nickel free. Rhodium is a hypoallergenic, nickel free metal which also lowers the chances of having an allergic reaction.
Please note that due to everyone’s unique body composition and chemistry, some people might be allergic to certain metals used in making jewelry. It is buyers responsibility to be aware of any allergies he or she may have to the metal before making a purchase.
Millions of Mirrors does not assume responsibility for allergic reactions that may occur as a result of wearing jewelry purchased from us.
